Background and Aims: The sociometric method holds a prominent place in Hungarian school psychology practice. In international research however, alongside Ferenc Mérei’s multi-aspect sociometric method, widely used in Hungary, there exists another method not previously employed in our country. This alternative approach we call “grouping sociometry” diverges significantly from multi-aspect sociometry. It places a greater emphasis on individual characteristics while employing a similar data-collection method but follows a distinct analytical procedure. Since its inception in the 1970s and 80s, grouping sociometry has yielded significant findings.
This article is dedicated to comparing these two methods, analyzing their theoretical distinctions and commonalities, and exploring the practical utility of grouping sociometry. It also provides essential references to assist readers in navigating the literature of this rapidly evolving research field.
