Confirmatory factor analysis, commonly abbreviated as CFA, is a method of great importance in the study of the structural validity of psychological tests. Not so long ago, this method could only be carried out with the help of expensive software. Today, fortunately, several free software programs, available to everyone, include CFA modules. This paper presents the theoretical background of CFA and the use of the latest such software, ROP-R, to perform FA. The paper also discusses the options available for the also free jamovi and JASP software. To help the reader to understand the essence of CFA analysis, the paper provides an illustrative example from real psychological research.
