Abstract

Background and aims: This article examines the characteristics of the R-PAS (Rorschach Performance Assessment System), a new performance-based Rorschach test. It compares this new test with Mérei’s Rorschach evaluation system, which continues to be widely used in clinical practice today.

Method: A comparative analysis is conducted, considering the application guidelines of the new procedure and the values derived from its extensive international normative data collection.

Results: Our findings demonstrate that both Mérei’s domestic Rorschach test and the R-PAS are highly effective tools for clinical psychologists. However, the R-PAS is particularly well-suited for performance measurement, work psychology, and forensic expertise. Its statistical reliability, reduced marking tasks, online evaluation system, and user-friendliness make it an appealing option for practitioners.

Discussion: The forthcoming application manual for the new test will enable users to learn and master its usage and the domestic test adaptation. Unlike the traditional Rorschach test used primarily for clinical emphasis and personality diagnosis, the new test has a broader range of applicability across all areas of psychological practice. By adopting the R-PAS, we are participating in international cooperation while simultaneously supporting the survival and development of the high-quality Hungarian Rorschach system.
